Circular knitted fabrics are produced by circular knitting needles as endless tubular fabric. Due to this production method, the fabric offers many advantages: it is elastic, seamless, inexpensive to produce and can be used almost anywhere. This flexibility makes it particularly interesting for the apparel industry and the largest area of application. Thanks to its wide range of possibilities, circular knitting technology is perfectly suited for the production of fashionable and functional textiles - from undershirts and T-shirts to high-quality sportswear with suitable moisture transport. Different weaves and gauges ensure an enormous variety of designs and functions. Also for home and household textiles such as mattress fabrics, circular knitting technology is ideally suited.
On flat knitting machines, up to four needle carriers are used which face each other in a V-shaped position. Just as on circular knitting machines, the needle movement is implemented by so-called cam mechanisms. These cam mechanisms are attached to the carriage of the flat knitting machine. The carriage moves back and forth horizontally over the needle carriers. The sock machine sector covers a wide range of machines. For example, socks are produced on single-cylinder and double-cylinder machines as well as on single-cylinder machines with dial. Depending on the pattern possibilities, the machines are equipped with one to four knitting systems. In contrast to large circular knitting machines, sock machines do not knit a continuous tubular fabric, but individual socks.
